ICC 2020 Year proposal

Synopsis of ICC‘s activities over the years:

During nearly forty seven years of its existence, ICC can claim to be a major contributor in enriching the lives of Houston Indian Community members. Among its significant accomplishments are:

  • Celebrating two major annual events of Indian Independence and Republic Days.
  • Purchasing a building in 1980 to conduct and/or facilities many community activities such as yoga, Dancing, and Music Lessons, etc.
  • Facilitating processing of Indian Visa and Passport applications
  • Playing a major role in getting Indian Consulate in Houston.
  • Hosting visits of India’s President , Prime Ministers, Cabinet Ministers and other dignitaries from India
  • Installing Mahatma Gandhi Statue in the Hermann Park, Re-naming Hillcroft area of “Little India” as Mahatma Gandhi District, and Installing a Lighted Gandhi Monument on Hillcroft Road.
  • Purchasing a 10 acre parcel of land in the Year 2000 to prepare for constructing a future Indo-American Community Center (IACC).
  • Helping many new Indian organizations such as Pratham, Indo American Charity Foundation, and Youth Leadership Develop Program.
  • Supporting several Indian Regional Organizations in their social, cultural, and religious activities and events.
  • Raising funds for the victims of several natural disasters in India and the USA; i.e., Gujarat and Kerala Floods in India, Indian Ocean Tsunami, Hurricanes Katrina and Harvey, and many others.
  • Celebrating Mahatma Gandhis Birthdays
  • Granting Awards and Scholarships to honor various areas of accomplishments.
  • Organizing Community Leaders’ Conferences to share ideas.
  • Conducting Sports and other activities of Family and Community Interest.
  • Conducting Seminars and Workshops on wide areas of Community Interest such as Job Fairs, Immigration, Voter Education, Safety and Security.
  • Organizing Kavi Sammelans and other events to promote India’s National Language, Hindi.
